If it is designed to control fan speed as a function of system demand AND wishes to minimize noise, it must have the capability to slow down the fan speed.
I have a vaio s460 notebook, and when i start the computer up it idles at 36C. However after running a game (counter--strike, which is 7 years old and should not make the cpu work so much) for 5 min, the cpu reaches a temperature of 89C, and stays there until i shut the computer down and leave it off for a while. Why would the temperature stay this high even 5 hours after having closed the game, and only play it for 5 min. Something is severely wrong, theres really no options for drivers on a vaio. Please leave suggestions of 3rd party drivers etc. I assume there is only one fan, which is running ( i pulled the keyboard off) Its not a spyware problem etc.

It ll be down till I have enough time to get a BIIG fan. I think that it is mostly do to the fact that all of my crunchers are doing 100% cpu power. Now for the question, do you guysgals pump up 100% on dedicated crunchers ??? Although if you use the computer for something else, it ll grab cycles from crunching. It might be a little sluggish, but it s better then shutting down the client.

Fanus on most modern systems this is a bad idea. However, I have made some cases much quiter by putting a larger CPU heatsync on - removing the cpu fan - and putting a large slower turning case fan blowing across it. You can get it to where the fan is almost noiseless - yet it actually cools better (unless you are talking a major perfomance machine... then the quiet option generally involves water cooling.
